MERRY CHRISTMAS

The NLTRA executive would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and best wishes for a happy, healthy, and prosperous New Year! As practioners, educators, and students in the field of therapeutic recreation, we often do not take the time for our own leisure. During this holiday season, please take some time to do just that.
“Have yourself a merry little Christmas”

President

National Therapeutic Recreation Awareness Week

The Canadian Therapeutic Recreation Association (CTRA) announces National Therapeutic Recreation Awareness Week, February 6th-12th, 2011. The Newfoundland and Labrador Therapeutic Recreation Association (NLTRA) will be celebrating this occasion with a list of events across our province.

In celebrating this week, we acknowledge the role of leisure, recreation and play as integral components of quality of life. Therapeutic Recreation service is provided to individuals who have physical, mental, social or emotional limitations which impact their ability to engage in meaningful leisure experiences. Our services support the goal of assisting the individual to maximize independence in leisure, optimal health and the highest possible quality of life.

The purpose of National Therapeutic Recreation Awareness Week is to promote awareness of Therapeutic Recreation programs and services, and expand leisure opportunities for disadvantages in health care settings and in the community.

Please contact Carl Ings, President of NLTRA at 709-292-2531 or email carl.ings@centralhealth.nl.ca for more information about events in your area.

Message from the President- Carl Ings

On behalf of the Newfoundland and Labrador Therapeutic Recreation Association Board, I would like to welcome you to the NLTRA website. We have included information that will be useful to practitioners, students and educators. We encourage you to explore our website and utilize any of the information provided. If you are not an NLTRA member, we encourage you to consider joining and take advantage of the resources in the “Members Only” section.  Please note, if you are not a member currently you can join online with our new Pay Pal feature.

The past couple of years I have been on the Newfoundland and Labrador Therapeutic Recreation Association, first as Central VP and now President. It allowed me the opportunity to work with other practitioners, in a volunteer role, who are passionate about the field of Therapeutic Recreation and the NLTRA.

Our exciting strategic plan, which was started by our 2009-2010 NLTRA board, is the roadmap for the 2010-2011 NLTRA board. With vision there must be accountability for action. Over the next year the NLTRA board of directors will be working hard to action these strategic directions. I believe the future of the NLTRA and the profession of Therapeutic Recreation in Newfoundland shows promise.

I am pleased and honored to be in the position of President for 2010-2011. I want to commend the board for the work done to this point and look forward to an amazing finish to our year.  I am confident the future of the NLTRA is in good hands.

Sincerely,

Carl Ings

NLTRA President 2010-2011
