Dear NLTRA Members, Colleagues, and Friends:
February 5th -11th is “National Therapeutic Recreation Awareness Week”.
On behalf of the Newfoundland and Labrador Therapeutic Recreation Association, I would like to take this time to wish all colleagues, practitioners, educators, and students, a Happy Therapeutic Recreation Awareness Week. The theme “Securing Our Future in Health and Wellness” is very reflective of what we strive to achieve by educating those around us every day. The purpose of this week is to promote awareness of TR programs and services, and ways to expand leisure opportunities for disadvantaged in health care settings and in the community.
During this week, please take some time to enhance awareness of therapeutic recreation programs and services, promoting your talents and the importance of our profession. Any effort will lend to a stronger, more unified voice in promoting the role of TR across the province and the country. Most importantly though, take time this week to reflect on your accomplishments and give yourself some well deserved recognition. We are the people who bring TR to many different populations and we should accept credit for the excellent beneficial programs and services that we offer.
So, have a coffee break, set up displays, sponsor a contest, and try different programs. We must not forget to recognize ourselves and foster pride in what we do. Celebrate!
